The Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) province has been recognized as one of the less developed provinces in the nation and their gross domestic product (GDP) was at the last place among 27 provinces in 2000. The province has been struggling with poverty issues and has economic gap with urban areas. Fishery activities, thereof, are completely small scaled and run by small households in fishery communities in general. Therefore, income and living standard of approximately 200,000 inhabitants who fish for living is really low due to several considerable reasons such as nonfunctional cooperative activities, immaturity of post fishery processing and fishing implements, and shortage of necessary fishery facilities. The objective of the Project is to enhance the living standard of the fishery village at Amagarapati in East Flores regency of NTT by improving the hygienic fishery port facilities and associated buildings such as ice producing plant and control house. This will be done by a Japanese Grant Aid to achieve the income increment of fishermen in the village and the stable supply of hygienic fishery commodities to the market for living.
